About
The goal of the Flatland Fly, in short, is to celebrate -and document (hopefully well)- a life lived out of doors, on the water or in the woods. While fly-fishing will arguably be the most frequented topic found within these pages, the ‘Sporting Life ’, and all that this lifestyle entails, runs central to my being. It’s not simply ‘what I do’, but rather ‘who I am’.
Since an early age, I’ve been mesmerized not only by the flora and fauna that my outdoor pursuits have surrounded me with, but also with the photos, videos, and storytelling that accompanies these pursuits. Reading (and re-reading and re-reading) the pages of Field and Stream and Bassmaster magazine, followed later in life by The Drake, Fly Fish Journal and Gray’s, took me to a place I could only describe as magical. I suppose you could say this site is my attempt at creating a little of that magic myself.
Living in the Midwest, we are fortunate to experience the full 4 seasons in all their glory. As such, here the appropriate sporting activities that sync with whichever month we happen to be in will be highlighted and featured, opined and examined. My aim is that these posts will make you laugh a little, learn a few things, and ultimately, serve as a little fuel to your personal fire to get outside and enjoy everything a life outdoors has to offer.
I’m glad you’re here.
Now let’s get after it….
